Accountability and restitution. That’s not an outrageous request. Who is to blame? Throughout this diabolical mess, the one party void of responsibility is the suffering homeowner. Other involved entities..well..the extent of their guilt will hopefully be determined in court.
The Associated Press reported that potentially more than 500 million pounds of tainted Chinese drywall arrived in the U.S. between 2004 and 2008—enough to build 100,000 homes. Customs inspection? Apparently not. No government agency will assume fault for this preventable “oversight”. How quickly we forgot previous contaminated Chinese imports when we desperately needed a product.
Don’t rely on your builder to remedy the situation. Some are coercing frustrated homeowners into signing unfair one-sided agreements that release the builder from current and future claims. Read the fine print and do not trust a verbal promise. Seek legal advice.
